Geology
Short characteristics of the site: Several old abandoned quarries. They evidence old quarrying of well known building stone, called "Žehrovák - the Žehrov stone". This sandstones are classified as arkoses and subarkoses, often with gravel admixture. The sediments belong to the Nýřany Beds of the Kladno Formation (Carboniferous). The sandstone is ill-sorted with scattered pebbles of quartz, silicites and fragments of schists. Oblique channel bedding is typical for these terrestrial sediments deposited by seasonal high water flows of braided river flow. The rocks represent well known and often used building stones. Many buildings in old Prague were constructed from them, even on the Prague Castle. At this locality informational panel was established.
